I saw some really awesome Tumblr sites these past few weeks and I must say that I am kinda feeling it. The layout of Tumblr is very minimalist, which I love. And it's very focused on the content. Also, I feel like this blog is heading towards more imagery and less words. Anyway, just want to share some amazing Tumblr sites hat I found.

Art and design lovers' ultimate pass times

This is purely speculative, but based on what I typically do on a relatively ordinary day as an art and design enthusiast.

1. I open my email expecting 10-15 newsletter from my favorite trend webzines. i.e. t-shirtmagazine, spotcoolstuff, dailyaphorisms, lostateminor etc.

2. I open my bloglovin' to see the updates of my favorite fashion blogs. i.e. tavi, the glamourai, sea of shoes, style bubble, etc.

3. I open my blog to check visitor counts and new comments.

4. I open twitter and see fellow design enthusiasts' new links (and I usually spend a lot of time there, and keep coming back every 6 hours: hehehe).

5. And lastly, I spend the rest of the time browsing through weheartit or fffound, checking out the most bookmarked sites and cool images. I love this part because I always get blown away by the size of possible networks out in the internet right now; that there are so much things that so many people don't know about.

With aesthetically prudent packaging design, I wouldn't be surprised if one day, famous people would be carrying these around. Just like when canvas bags and Whole foods became a trend.

I couldn't sleep last night because thousands of ideas are swarming into my mind. I was at a point that I didn't want to sleep at all and just start doing it all already. I really treasure nights like those when I get inspired to be creative and invigorate myself with spontaneity. But all that happened because of a number of new websites, weblogs and webzines that I found last night. It was so encouraging to see many people unleashing out their creative souls and sharing their works to the whole world.

A Print A Day is a personal blog by Yasmine Surovec. It features her drawings and illustrations, as well as great downloads such as dreamcatcher list pads and printable labels. Her illustrations are the most worth mentioning because of their sophisticated-yet-cute ambience.

Parasol Magazine is a free, downloadable pdf magazine dedicated to promoting design, art, creative lifestyles and small business. Also by Yasmine Surovec.

Not Paper is a blog that features collages and collage artists. When I took a 2D art class last semester, we spent a good time working with collages. And that's when my fascination with mixed media started. Not Paper is by Aprile Elcich, a Graphic Design student from Canada.

Bookworm Buzz: Candida Hofer Libraries

Okay, I have a thing for libraries. It's hard to describe the feeling I get when I'm surrounded with lots and lots of books. Or rather new worlds to be discovered and escape to. That's why, included in my life list of dreams is to have my own big personal library and/or to build a beautiful and most extravagant public library in the world (this is my grandeur side) complete with a gallery of personally-collected contemporary art pieces. That's why when I came across German photographer Candida Hofer's "Libraries", I quickly fell-over my seat and was completely mesmerized. I haven't got the copy of the book, but I swear it would be in my top priority for my next check! hahaha

This book will truly be a great inspiration to any aspiring landscape or architecture photographers.

Last spring 2008, I didn't really get the hype about YSL's Tribute Shoes. If you didn't either, here's what it was.

Still don't get it? Height. It's all about height. This basic black pump has the highest heels ever at 4 inches! That's why everyone wanted it from Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez to Anne Hathaway. Everyone still love it right now, even after 2 seasons, because of it's great aesthetic design and timeless presence.

So perhaps so many people liked the height idea and stuck onto it. Evidence? Louis Vuitton "Spicy" shoes, and Prada's Spring/Summer 2009 shoes collection.

A Tribute to some serious CUPCAKE HEAVEN

After weeks and weeks of craving for cupcakes, I finally found a very nearby store where I can fulfill this obsession! I discovered Miss Priss Cupcakes & Such yesterday and went gaga because it's been so close to me all these time and didn't know about it. I am so psyched that it's only a good walk away from school, so it'll be great for those afternoons when I find myself alone and sick of work. Be envious of my first dozen! Be very envious!

Another great thing about Miss Priss cupcakes is that it's so reasonably priced unlike other cupcake stores around the area: Frosted Cupcakery in 2nd street and Charmed Cupcakes in Spring street. Miss Priss' mini cupcakes are only a dollar each and regular-sized cupcakes are $1.99. They also have other sweet goodies in the store which I didn't get to look at that much because my eyes were just so focused on the mini cupcakes! hahahah

A subway story of a bag-full of ponies, all in a Diorama

I remember in early grade school where teachers would only have two options for your creativity [at least, in my school]. It was either a collage or a diorama. The latter usually takes too much time to do, quite costly to some of us and not to mention, it requires more room to display. So I have not been a big fan of dioramas for all those reasons.

But I never imagined that 12 years later I would be blown away by two artist who made diorama-making so enticing and invigorating.

Kim Stringfellow featured self-inflicting pain, incest, fertility and other thought-provoking topics in a series of diorama-like photography assemblage that was launched in 1994. The perplexed and eerily imaginative concepts of each assembly can tell so many stories besides the one of the author's. I especially love the "Self Portrait as St. Lucy". This piece is about self-inflicting pain. Why I like it? Go figure.

Another great diorama artist I found was Sloane Crosley. She made her diorama art based on her best-selling book [and soon-to-be HBO series]. I love how her dioramas makes anyone feel so light and floaty. Kinda like the feeling when you're in bed, and your mom is reading you a book as you near your dreamboat. That good. My favorite is "The Pony Problem" in which the artist confessed a secret and left it in a bag in a subway train. The diorama below is her story of a day when she found a "surprise" on her bathroom floor. Her wittingly vibrant little stories about everyday life are in her book, I Was Told There'd Be Cake.

Crave Recommendation: Kwek Kwek

One of the best and most popular Filipino street food is a hard-boiled egg dipped in seasoned batter and deep-fried. It's usually dipped in vinegar. Believe it or not, the other name for this snack is "tokneneng". As bad as it's sounds, this snack is really good.

24 pcs. quail eggs, hard-boiled and shells removed
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 tsp + 1 pinch iodized salt
a pinch or two of black pepper powder
a pinch of Maggi Magic Sarap (optional)
1/2 cup tap water
2-3 drops red food color
2-3 drops yellow food color
1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for dusting)
1 cup cooking oil (for frying)

1) In a shallow pan prepare and heat cooking oil over medium heat.

2) Meantime, stir in food color into water until you get the desired tint.

2) In a medium bowl combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper and Magic Sarap or MSG (if using). Gradually add-in colored water, pouring a little at a time as you beat the batter with slow strokes. Add in any remaining water until the batter is fluid but thick.

3) Pour the extra 1/4 cup all-purpose flour into a plastic bag or container. Add in the shelled quail eggs, cover/seal and roll to coat.

4) Dunk the floured eggs into the batter.

5) Fry for a minute each side or until the batter sets. Remove with a slotted spoon and allow to cool and drain.

6) Serve with sweet-chili sauce or sweet and sour sauce or vinegar with minced red onion and a sprinkling of ground black pepper and salt. Enjoy!

A sophisticated looking oversized clutch, are so hot right now, it was all over Fall 2009 Fashion Week in Paris and New York.

But this is actually Lenovo's "Yoga Project" pocket notebook. These images from TheCoolHunters.net were claimed to be purposefully leaked by the company to entice customers of the Vaio P [see here].

According to Gizmodo.com, it converts into a touch screen pad when closed. AND take note of this, the clasp actually turns into a wireless mouse. *Mind Blown*

Well, these speculations are mere speculations. Nothing is true until we actually see it and play with it at Best Buy or Circuit City (I know I would) haha. But the bottomline is, you'd be one hot person in the coffee shop when you carry around one of these babies!

And that's all I'm saying. Hot.

Bacon Therapy

I know somebody who can eat a whole pack of smoked-honey glazed bacon; and I also happen to know somebody who says she will "die" if she eats vegetables. Doug Larson of Green Bay-Press Gazette said that

"Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon."

SO TRUE. If only this is possible, we can all be happy. Don't you think?

So if you're having a bad day, try some bacon therapy.

The Vivian Girls is a refreshing twist to girl power. Harnessing the genius of fuzzy sound and melodies, combined with Phil Spektor-ish ambiance. Recommended on those days when you don't feel like breaking up with your boyfriend, because the Vivian Girls will make you!

I stumbled upon, StumbleUpon.com one day when I was looking for Webblog awardees. And this image was one of the things I encountered when I hit STUMBLE.

It's mean, racist and demeaning. But we have to admit that it's funny! It would have been more complete if there was a Philippine dot somewhere near the "TVs and cameras" area. I think it would have to say "where the nurses come from". And please note that according to the artist, Canada is uninhabited. hahaha

So while you're laughing and thinking hard about "America We R #1!!!!", here is a good midnight snack for you: FAMOUS CUPCAKES' Red Velvet mini cupcake

I got the privilege to munch some of these babies at the hospital when one of my patients' family brought these for the whole nurses' station. Take my word for it; this will hunt you in your dreams.
